We, the publishers of the Footprint Press, are grateful to live on the ancestral territory of the Stó:lō people, which is composed of numerous distinct and related First Nation communities along the Fraser River. Locally, at a biodiversity hotspot where the Fraser and Stave rivers meet, these include part of the traditional territories of the Kwantlen and Whonnock people. The area was, and remains, a rich ecosystem, with abundant salmon and wildlife.
We recognize the degradation of the environment caused by colonial settlements, and resulting hardships on Indigenous people, which continues to this day. We oppose development and industries that destroy natural ecosystems, and support the good work being done to combat climate change, protect forests, endangered species, and wild salmon habitats.
We strive for a more just, diverse, and informed society. We commit to include Indigenous voices, as well as those of scientists, environmental activists, artists, and people of all ages, who seek to live harmoniously with nature in a shared environment.
